Rachmat Kaimuddin to become advisor to Luhut after stepping down as Bukalapak CEO

Former Bukalapak CEO Rachmat Kaimuddin has joined the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment as a special advisor for technology & sustainability development. This news was confirmed by Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan at an online press conference today (3 January). 

“It is true that Mr. Rachmat Kaimuddin will join the extended family of the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment of the Republic of Indonesia as a Technology & Sustainability Development Special Advisor who will provide reports and input to me personally as Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment,” Luhut said in the conference.

The minister added that Rachmat’s recruitment has been planned and discussed in the past few months and it signifies the government's commitment to encouraging major transformation in the field of development and technology in Indonesia. This is consistent with Rachmat’s area of expertise, given his extensive experience and achievements.

Luhut also cited Rachmat’s leadership experience in various industries and sectors, including in technology and sustainable development, as an important point that makes him worthy of the new position. 

Rachmat submitted his resignation letter on 28 December, according to Bukalapak’s disclosure of information to the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) on 29 December. According to Forbes, Bukalapak’s shares on 30 December fell after his resignation was made public. 

Rachmat is also known as the CEO who successfully brought Bukalapak to become the first unicorn to be listed on the IDX.

“This is something that I could imagine since I was a child - to work for the country. I hope that I can work well by giving my energy and contributing my thoughts for the good of all of us," Rachmat stated.
