Kominfo's plan to block Instagram, Netflix and Google from Instagram, Netflix, to Google by Kominfo

The government through the Ministry of Information and Communications (Kominfo) in 2020 issued a regulation which basically requires private sector electronic system operators (PSE private) or companies/individuals/groups that disseminate electronic information, such as Instagram, to register. The sanction is that if you do not register, your access will be terminated.

The purpose of this rule is so that any electronic information that is circulated does not violate the provisions of the law or public order, and guarantees the protection of personal data.

Actually the company is required to register before operating. However, until this ministerial regulation was enacted, platforms such as Google, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Netflix had not yet registered.

Based on Kominfo data released by Katadata (June 22), from 2015 to this month, there were 4,540 PSE registered in Indonesia, consisting of 4,472 domestic PSE and 68 foreign PSE.

Meanwhile, according to research from CNBC (June 24), there are several well-known foreign private PSEs that have registered, including TikTok and LinkTree who signed up on June 22.

Local platforms such as Gojek, Tokopedia, JnT, and OVO have also registered.

In total, only 2,569 have been registered, while 1,971 have not been registered. There will be more private PSEs blocked.

Kominfo spokesman Dedy Permadi on June 22 reminded foreign private PSE companies to immediately register before July 20, 2022. Otherwise, they will be immediately blocked from Indonesia, CNBC reported.

Dedy explained that Kominfo will later check which PSEs have not registered. After that, if you have not registered until the specified time period, communication will be carried out with the relevant PSE. If there is no reason that can be accepted by Kominfo, it will be immediately blocked.

According to Dedy, large platforms that have not yet been registered are most likely still in process.
