LINE Indonesia dismisses report of laying off 80 employees and closing LINE Today

South Korean-based telecommunications start-up LINE reportedly laid off 80 employees in Indonesia and has closed its LINE Today service. However, this report was denied by LINE.

Earlier, the account @ecommurz tweeted:

“Line Indonesia reportedly shut LINE today down and laid off~80 people. Those impacted already notified 2 weeks ago".

LINE Indonesia Country Manager Fanny Verona said that the company is currently taking strategic steps to refocus on the financial technology (fintech) business in Indonesia.

"Of course, we are still committed to the Indonesian market, and we will continue to provide LINE messenger services to our users the same as before. In line with our strategic business direction, we will determine our company's resources and we hereby confirm that the report about the number of employees being laid off, which is 80 people, is not true," said Fanny on Thursday (June 2) as reported by Kompas.com.

Fanny said that LINE will continue to provide essential services for its users and will continue to carry out activities, such as M&A and investment.

"To this date, LINE TODAY service users can still access and enjoy various news and stories as a whole," said Fanny.

Further information for users will be announced on the notification page of the application.
