9GAG opened the world’s first meme museum in Hong Kong

9GAG last month teamed up with K11 Art Mall in Hong Kong and opened an art exhibition which is also known as the world’s first-ever Meme Museum. Celebrating the most popular internet culture, the museum showcases more than 100 memes that visitors could interact with in seven different themed zones centred around viral and famous memes, such as the ‘Troll Face’, ‘Doge’, ‘Disaster Girl’ and ‘Disappointed Cricket Fans’.

Visitors can go down a time tunnel to see the history of memes via rows of TV screens as well as get temporary tattoos at Memeingful Tattoo Station. Visitors can also enjoy a sensory 4D interactive experience at the ‘Beyond the Meme’ area where memes come to life via an augmented reality conveyor.

Other than showcasing memes, the main highlight of the exhibition is the launch of the world’s first meme NFT as well as 9GAG’s debut NFT titled ‘In Meme We Love’ - an artwork consisting of collage of memes that it auctioned off for $25,000.

The exhibition is located in the second basement of K11 Art Mall and runs from 16 July to 5 September and is free of charge.
