A video showing a Shopee warehouse catching fire went viral on Sunday (5 September). The warehouse is located in Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta and the fire happened at night. A short circuit is suspected as the cause of the incident.

The fire was reported at 22:56 WIB. A total of 23 fire trucks and 100 firefighters were deployed to handle the fire, which was successfully extinguished at 02:20 on 6 September.

The next evening, Shopee Indonesia Head of Public Affairs Radynal Nataprawira confirmed the incident. He said that there were no casualties in the incident. Also, the incident does not disrupt the shipment and delivery as other Shopee warehouses operate as normal.

Shopee Indonesia ensures that it will take responsibility for the incident, including compensating sellers for packages that were damaged by the fire. He stated that sellers do not need to worry about their goods as everything has been insured.

“Currently, our team is doing further investigation into this incident and we will improve security in other warehouses,” Radynal said.
