Adidas and Allbirds partner up to create sustainable shoes

Adidas and start-up sustainable shoe brand Allbirds are teaming up to create world’s most eco-friendly sneakers. The effort doesn’t stop at sustainable material. It traces back to the carbon emission produced from supply chain, manufacturing process and shipping.

Both companies said on press release that they would explore innovations that span everything from manufacturing and supply chain to transportation methods as they aimed to eliminate carbon emissions.

In general, a pair of sneakers produces 12.5 kg of carbon dioxide. Allbirds sneakers produce around 7.5 kg of carbon dioxide. The collaboration from Adidas and Allbirds aims to further reduce the amount of carbon dioxide to 3 kg during the first phase of collaboration.

The release date for the collection has not been announced yet. Both companies hope the partnership will encourage other companies to take similar action.

Founded in 2014, Allbirds has been lauded for its innovation and sustainable effort. The company also prioritises comfort as the sneakers are washable and wearable without socks. Allbirds first sneakers launch, Allbirds Wool Runner, sneakers use New Zealand superfine merino wool.
