USS 2021 marks the revival of MSMEs in Indonesia
The annual event for sneakerheads and fashion enthusiasts Urban Sneaker Society (USS) 2021 concluded last week. The event was held offline at the Jakarta Convention Centre (JCC) on 2-5 December.
The event marked the revival of Indonesian MSMEs and the creative industry. These are some of the sectors that are hardest hit by the pandemic.
Responding to the changes and developments of government regulations related to the pandemic, 2021 could be considered as the beginning of a turning point for the creative and fashion industries to return to work optimally.
USS saw the relaxation of public activity restrictions in Java and Bali as an opportunity to finally hold an offline event. The event could also be seen as an effort to support economic recovery for MSMEs and local brands in Indonesia.
"We always support MSMEs, especially local brands. Since the beginning of the pandemic, we keep finding various ways to help them, such as by releasing online publications and holding virtual interactive events. However, it's not enough. Offline event is an important part of MSME sales,” said USS Networks CEO Sayed Muhammad.
USS 2021 was supported by State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir. “If local brands are appreciated in this country, MSMEs will definitely continue to grow,” Erick said.
He added that the event could be seen as proof that Indonesia’s younger generation has the ability and a great will to move forward and develop.
“Therefore, by still adhering to health protocols, we are ready to come back as a supporting platform [for MSMEs]. Hopefully, along with the assistance from various agencies and Bank Mandiri, USS 2021 could be the starting point of the movement for the rise of our MSMEs,” Sayed explained.
This year, Urban Sneaker Society presented a variety of selected local brands ranging from Streetwear Brand, Sneaker Market and Thrift to other fun activities, such as NFT Gallery, Sneaker Museum, F&B and raffle, which is one of USS’ most-awaited activities throughout the year.
