Design studio Thinking*Room releases design book to celebrate 15+ years of running
To commemorate its 15+ years of running, design studio Thinking*Room released a book titled “We Refuse To Grow Up”, its second and biggest design publication to date. The book explores in-depth journeys of everything related to design, from creative processes to contemplative reflections, drawing upon the experiences of running a design studio after more than a decade.
In the book, Thinking*Room founder and design principal Eric Widjaja shared his and his team’s insights, hard-learned lessons, as well as his personal stories about the long and ongoing journey and what it takes to run an independent design studio.
The book also reveals the expectedly-complicated yet unpredictably-simple process in the design process, the behind-the-scenes of how an idea goes from the drawing board into the hands of consumers. The relationship between the designer and the client are also discussed, seeking to nurture future generations of designers.
The book also touches on subjects that are rarely talked about in the Indonesian design industry: how the profession as graphic designers are undervalued yet the interest continues to grow.
“'We Refuse To Grow Up' is less of the theories on design, or what you'd find in common design readings, but more about stories and lessons. We wanted to share an angle on that journey of being a designer, perhaps if it could resonate with even one person out there,” Eric explained.
To celebrate the book launch, Thinking*Room will hold an exhibition on 12-21 December at Kala Karya Kalijaga gallery.
