Fashion rental platform Rentique records growth during pandemic
Fashion rental platform Rentique in its press release stated that it acquired more customers in 2021 compared to 2020. According to the company, the pandemic has normalised buying second-hand items and the sharing economy.
“Consumers currently prefer to consume fewer stuff but sustainable and reliable. One of the ways to reduce ownership of clothes is shifting to renting services. Renting services are used in special events, such as in-person meeting, wedding, maternity shoot, virtual graduation ceremony, staycation or simply hanging out with friends. We feel that the renting service business concept could be one of the winners in the retail industry in the future,” said Rentique CEO Dea Amira.
The company found that women still dress up despite the stay-at-home order. One-time rental remains the company’s top selling service at Rp80,000/item for four days. “According to data obtained by Rentique, if a consumer rents an item and then in a few weeks rent an item up to three times, statistically, they will be our loyal customer,” said Dea.
Founded in 2019, Rentique has approximately 55,000 active users on iOS and Android. The company operates in 31 provinces as of 2021. Designers working with Rentique record more than 20% of profits every month. Rentique has signed with more than 60 fashion designers during the pandemic.
