Byo plans to launch men’s collection
Byo bags, famous for its geometric shape and weaving technique, is seeking to expand its consumer base to the men segment. “Even though I believe in genderless fashion and will never limit user of Byo bags, we plan to launch collection specifically for men in the future,” said Byo founder Tommy Ambiyo Tedji.
According to Tommy, men only make up around 2% of Byo customers at this moment. The brand is currently studying elements from sneakers culture to be incorporated into its men’s collection. Byo also doubles its effort to showcase the flexibility of its products by releasing a campaign that promotes genderless fashion.
“We never specifically intended our bags to be solely for women. More and more men often ask if there are men’s styles available,” said Tommy. This is not the first time Byo explores beyond the women category. The brand in 2019 partnered with fashion label Sean and Sheila at Jakarta Fashion Week and featured male models clutching its bag on the runway.
As for its upcoming men’s collection, the brand is experimenting on texture and pattern. The choice of material will lean toward matte finish, Tommy stated. “When we launch men’s collection, we will make sure every list is fulfilled while still maintaining the identity of Byo.”
