Australia pledges largest investment its local fashion industry
The Australian government recently pledged investment of more than $380 million for the national fashion industry, the largest investment the government has ever made for the arts and culture sector since the building of Sydney Opera House.
Industry leaders were summoned to Sydney’s Powerhouse Museum where the New South Wales government announced the move. The investment will be used to transform the museum complex into a fashion and design hub.
Powerhouse Museum Chief Executive Lisa Havilah explained that the move is aimed at redefining the museum space, making it not only a space for the people, but also for the industry. The project is expected to raise the visibility of the Australian fashion industry by allowing industry players to make use of the space in the museum and supporting programmes to boost the industry.
