Google Doodle celebrates Indonesia’s 76th Independence Day with Kathrin Honesta’s illustration

Google celebrated Indonesia’s 76th Independence Day with a doodle created by Indonesian illustrator Kathrin Honesta.

Kathrin aims to showcase the diversity of Indonesia and its culture, highlighting Indonesian traditional performing arts from various provinces. The doodle features traditional musical instruments, namely gambus from Riau, rebana from Java, sasando from East Nusa Tenggara and tifa from Papua and Maluku, traditional dance pakarena from South Sulawesi, as well as hudoq mask from Dayak tribe in Kalimantan.

“When I do more research about performing arts, I read that the performing arts industry is struggling during the pandemic. So, this doodle acts as a tribute to all performing artists. This is also a celebration; a reminder for us to keep the spirit alive despite this difficult situation,” Kathrin shared on her Instagram account.
