For the first time in history, esports will join Pekan Olahraga Nasional (National Sports Week). Four esports games, one of which is PUBG Mobile, will be contested as exhibition games at PON XX which will be held this year in Jayapura, Papua.

Registration for PUBG Mobile was closed on 8 September with more than 4,200 teams. The Indonesian Esports Executive Board (PBESI) announced last Thursday (9 September) that all teams will compete in a preliminary round that will be held online simultaneously in 33 provinces on 11-12 September.

Top 15 teams in the preliminary round and one team from Papua as the host of the event will then compete in PON XX in an offline event in Jakarta.

Other esports games to be contested at PON XX are PES 2021, Mobile Legends and Free Fire. The qualifying phase and play-off round for Mobile Legends is complete and six provinces -West Kalimantan, Central Java, DKI Jakarta, South Sumatra, North Sulawesi and West Java- as well as the Papua team as the host will compete at the main event.
