Coldplay invites Jokowi to join Global Citizen Live

British band Coldplay last Saturday (18 September) mentioned President Joko Widodo in their tweet, inviting him to join Global Citizen Live, an annual global event that unites all people around the world to address ongoing global issues. 

“@jokowi, will you join @bankimooncentre and a coalition of Indonesian climate advocates at #GlobalCitizenLive to make a commitment to the planet? Where you lead, others will follow,” Coldplay tweeted.

Ban Ki-moon Centre for Global Citizens is a quasi-international organisation focusing on global citizenship, youth and women by implementing the SDGs. 

Global Citizen Live is a 24-hour live broadcast with events and performances around the world. This year’s event, beginning 25 September, will be held simultaneously in several cities, including Paris, New York City, Los Angeles, Seoul and London, to support the “Recovery Plan for the World” campaign, which focuses on five key objectives: end COVID for all, end the hunger crisis, resume learning everywhere, protect the planet and advance equity for all.

BTS, Coldplay, Ed Sheeran, Black Eyed Peas, Adam Lambert and Elton John are among artists that will perform at the event. 

At the time of writing this article, President Jokowi has not responded to the tweet. 

However, former Indonesian Ambassador to the United States Dino Patti Djalal replied to Coldplay’s tweet. IHe said that he has sent an invitation letter to the president via Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto, requesting him to give a speech and convey Indonesia’s aspirations regarding climate change.
