“Penyalin Cahaya” removes crew name from credits as response to sexual harassment allegation
The production teams behind award-winning Indonesian film “Penyalin Cahaya” (“Photocopier”) removed the name of a crew member from the movie’s credits. The said crew member was reported to have committed a sexual harassment in the past.
The production teams received the information from a community that manages the reporting of sexual harassment cases.
“As an ethical responsibility for our commitment and to respect the reporting process, we have decided to remove the name of the suspect from the movie’s credits as well as from all of the movie's publication materials,” said Rekata Studio and Kaninga Pictures in an official statement - which was also posted by the movie’s director Wregas Bhanuteja.
In the statement, they mentioned that maintaining a sexual harassment-free film production environment is their primary mission. They also ensured that the 20 days of filming was done safely.
“Rekata Studio and Kaninga Pictures are very serious in responding to this incident and we hope that all processes following the report will be done by accommodating the interests of the survivors so it can be resolved the right way,” the statement closes.
“Penyalin Cahaya” is a movie which plot revolves around the topic of sexual harassment as the director seeks to spread awareness of the issue. Wregas also said that the movie is dedicated to all sexual harassment and violence survivors.
