KPI bullying case update: KPI not to renew the bullies' work contract

The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI) has decided not to renew the work contract of eight employees who are known as the perpetrators behind the bullying case that went viral last year. This news was confirmed by KPI Commissioner Hardly Stefano Fenelon on 7 January.

“It is true, the alleged perpetrators are no longer contracted as KPI employees as of 1 January 2022," Hardly stated.

There are three points that serve as the basis for the KPI’s decision. First, the result of Komnas HAM's investigation which validates that the experiences MS conveyed are true.

Second, the KPI believes that recovery efforts are necessary for the victim. The agency feels that MS can recover more quickly if he is not working in the same place with the alleged perpetrators.
Third, the KPI hopes that the alleged perpetrators will focus more on the legal process as the case is under investigation.

"The victim's report is being followed up by a police investigation. Therefore, by continuing to prioritise the principle of presumption of innocence, it is better for the alleged perpetrators to concentrate on completing the ongoing legal process," Hardly explained.

The KPI decided to renew the victim’s (MS) work contract. MS has been transferred to the Ministry of Communications and Informatics in order to help his psychological recovery.

“MS' status remains as an employee at the Central KPI, until next year," said one of MS’ lawyers Mualimin.
