Ananda Sukarlan becomes the first ever Asian classical composer to registers works as NFTs
Indonesian classical composer and pianist Ananda Sukarlan recently auctioned off two piano pieces as NFT. The auction is part of Ananda’s social works as he is known as a musician who actively participates in social activities by dedicating some of his works to raise donations.
Ananda’s works which were registered as NFTs and have been auctioned off are the solo piano variation on “Pergi Belajar” by Ibu Sud and “Rapsodia Nusantara Number 35”. Both NFTs were purchased by Edwin Soeryadjaya and Hilmi Panigoro for $61,000 (almost Rp1 billion). The auction was held in Indonesian NFT marketplace Metaroid.
With the auction, Ananda became the first ever Asian classical composer to register his works as NFTs. Proceeds from the auction will be donated for the fundraising event “Charity Auction” organised by NGO Habitat for Humanity Indonesia.
“Proceeds from the Charity Auction fundraising [will be used] to help build more houses for families who became the victims of hurricane disaster in East Nusa Tenggara. [This will be added to the proceeds from the] previous charity concert “NTT adalah Kita” and to other fundraising events,” said National Director of Habitat for Humanity Indonesia Susanto.
