Fashion designer Paul Smith joins British prestigious special royal order
Fashion designer Sir Paul Smith recently joined a prestigious royal order for his services to fashion, namely the Order of the Companions of Honour. He was made a member by Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge in a ceremony at Windsor Castle on Wednesday (12 January).
Paul attributed his long and successful career to the “stimulant” of “creativity”.
“Creativity is a very interesting stimulant because there's nothing better than having a lovely idea and then turning that idea into reality and seeing that people are enjoying what you've created,” he stated, adding that, “the love of life keeps me going - getting up every morning".
Sir Paul Smith has become one of 66 living members, including Queen Elizabeth. The award was established in 1917 by King George V to celebrate work of national importance.
“I was made a CBE by the Queen, received my knighthood from Prince Charles and now with William, I've got the full set,” said the Nottingham designer after the ceremony while wearing one of his own suits.
Paul Smith is known for his trademark multi-coloured stripes and classic British tailoring. He has dressed and accessorised celebrities, such as David Bowie, Daniel Day-Lewis and the England football team.
His global brand that was founded in 1970 encompasses everything from shoes, fragrances and watches to ready-to-wear clothes for men and women. The brand has hundreds of stores in more than 70 countries and has collaborated with other iconic brands. Last year, the brand launched a collaboration with Mini Cooper to release The Mini Strip.
