Netflix's “Lupin” and “The Crown” sets robbed
As reported by Variety, the set of Netflix’s French heist drama “Lupin” was robbed. The thieves went off with $333,000 worth of equipment.
In doing their mission, the group of thieves broke into the set, located in a neighbourhood in Nanterre on the outskirts of Paris, with their faces covered and “attacked” the whole set with fireworks.
It was during the time when Omar Sy who stars as the main character was filming the third season of the series. The filming was paused for an afternoon. Netflix confirmed this news, saying that there was an “incident” during the filming of the third season of “Lupin”. “Our cast and crew are safe and there were no injuries,” the statement read. “We have now resumed filming,” Netflix stated.
A day before the “Lupin” robbery, it was reported that the Netflix series “The Crown” was hit by theft. However, the thieves did not put up any firework show - they only broke into three parked vehicles, stealing the props inside. More than 350 items of antique props worth $200,000 were stolen, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed to NBC News.
Over 350 items were stolen, Netflix said, including a replica of a 1897 Imperial Coronation Fabergé coach egg, 12 sets of silver candelabra, seven gold candelabra, a clock face from a William IV grandfather clock, a 10-piece silver dressing table and St Louis gilt Crystal glassware and decanters.
“The items stolen are not necessarily in the best condition and therefore of limited value for resale. However, they are valuable as pieces to the UK film industry,” the series’ set decorator Alison Harvey, told Antiques Trade Gazette.
