Costume designer for “Gatotkaca” spoke up for not receiving screen credit
Naythero, the costume designer for the superhero movie "Satria Dewa: Gatotkaca", through his Instagram Story on 7 June said that he did not receive a screen credit. “It was fun working on a film, doing all the major costumes … and not being part of the credits,” he wrote
"This is the last time I’m working with this production, the first producer was much more professional," he added.
TFR contacted Naythero for more information. He explained that the collaboration started in 2018. Initially, the costumes were drawn by Satria Dewa Studio (SDS) and then developed by a team from Naythereo, Parallel Life Studios.
“The first owner and creator of SDS, Rene, is enthusiastic about this project. Rene really respects the decisions of the artists. We (Parallel Life Studios) also helped Rene develop the costumes of the characters by making them wearable by real actors," Naythero explained.
This was done because, for him, when the artist drew the figure of a hero, the costume could never be used in the real world. “You have to think about the sewing process as well as the comfort aspect of the stunt doubles and their safety,” he said.
Apart from himself, Naythero said that there is a possibility that Rene Ishak, as the creator and producer, is not mentioned in the post-credits. He found it strange because Rene was the one who created this work and made it possible, before suddenly leaving his own company. "If I was part of a new team, I would mention his name out of respect," he explained.
Before he commented on the upload of the “Satria Dewa: Gatotkaca” premiere, he had contacted the production team but was ignored. "First, we were ignored several times, maybe because they didn't know that we were the costume team. They should have received a lot of messages," said Naythero.
He further explained, "When I commented on the post of the gala premiere, the audience immediately took action and my response went viral in Indonesia." Naythero had no intention of creating drama as his side was ignored when contacting privately.
SDS as the production house behind the movie contacted Naythero immediately. "SDS immediately contacted me because I have many friends and followers in Indonesia who contacted SDS."
Naythero later received an email from SDS apologising and asking for the full names and roles of the Parallel Life Studios crew who developed the Gatotkaca and Aswatama armour and outfit for the main characters and stunt doubles.
Parallel Life Studios also made costumes that weren't featured in the movie because the script was changed at the last minute. "It's a shame because that's a really interesting part of the film," he said.
