Plaza Indonesia raises awareness of mental health of industrial workers through Wellness Festival

Plaza Indonesia is holding Plaza Indonesia Wellness Festival (PWF) to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining mental health and fitness for workers in the capital city. The event, which comprises a number of classes and workshops, started on 16 July at several places in the shopping centre in Sudirman, Jakarta.

Some mental health disorders that are often faced by industrial workers are severe stress and burnout (Johnson et al., 2020). These health problems are usually triggered by pressures that prevent workers from having optimal psychological health. This reality can even affect the well-being of people outside of the affected individual.

Marketing General Manager of PI Zamri Mamat said PWF exists as a response to the importance of living healthy mentally and physically in the midst of conditions and all the changes that exist. The awareness emerged in line with changes in activities that began to return to normal after the pandemic broke out two years ago. Zamri added that the event is aimed at those who have busy schedules and need to find fitness to rejuvenate their mind and body as well as emotional well-being.

The event is held in collaboration with The Golden Space, a Singapore-based organisation that focuses on transforming personal development. The Golden Space Managing Director Cindy Gozali said that people who live in a metropolis like Jakarta often need to increase their awareness to achieve balance in all aspects of life, in order to live a better life.

Co-founder of The Golden Space Stephani Hermawan said that industrial workers often think that achieving the work-life balance is impossible. As a matter of fact, all aspects of one’s lives are interrelated and balancing them is possible. The Golden Space believes that through awareness of the importance of mindfulness and meditation, one can achieve balance in all aspects, including personal, health, relationships and work.

38 activities will be held in PWF in collaboration with 11 partners. Visitors can practice meditation, pilates, breathing exercises, yoga and many more.

There are also programmes that take advantage of the therapeutic benefits of art. Art therapy is a branch of science that is believed to be able to overcome mental disorders through creative expression. Several art therapy-based workshops will be conducted in PWF, such as relaxing abstract art and art journaling. All programmes are free of charge. Registration can be done online at piwf2022.plazaindonesia.com.
