Indonesian conductor Avip Priatna receives award from Austrian government
Indonesian conductor Avip Priatna on 27 July 27 was awarded The Decoration of Honour in Gold for Services to the Republic of Austria for his active contribution in promoting Austria as the country of music and culture as well as facilitating collaboration and cultural exchange between Austria and Indonesia. Avip is now recognised as the Cultural Ambassador of Austria for Indonesia.
As the founder of Jakarta Concert Orchestra, Batavia Madrigal Singers and The Resonanz Children’s Choir, Avip often holds concerts that feature music composed by Austrian composers.
“It is such an honour for me to receive this award from the Austrian government. I am very much surprised. This award will definitely encourage me more to develop and introduce classical music to the public, especially the younger generations. I would like them to be more familiar with orchestras, be it local orchestras or symphonies,” Avip said. He hopes that the award will inspire people to be the pride of Indonesia with their expertise.
Avip also received a Bakti Budaya (cultural service) award from Djarum Foundation for his contribution in increasing public appreciation towards Indonesian culture.
