Another heartbreaking news struck the comic industry all over the world. Kentaro Miura, the creator of popular dark fantasy manga Beserk, passed away at the age of 54. According to Dark Horse Comics, the US publisher for the series, the master artist and storyteller passed due to acute aortic dissection.

Miura started his career as a mangaka (comic artist) in the mid 80s. He had created seven works to this date. In 1988, he came up with Berserk: The Prototype before taking off with Berserk in 1989. The series centre around a lone mercenary named Guts and a leader of a mercenary band called Griffith in a European fantasy world.

Albeit known for the hiatus, the series has been ongoing ever since and adapted into many formats. Berserk has been adapted into 25 episodes of anime, a film series and another animated series starting from chapter 115 of the manga. The series also has a novel adaptation written by Makoto Fukami under the title Berserk: The Flame Dragon Knight, game adaptations and merchandises.

Berserk is dubbed as Japan’s best-selling manga of all time and has ran up to 40 volumes. However, with the passing of the respected author, the series is now left unfinished.
