Pablo Picasso painting auctioned for $103 million
Pablo Picasso’s Woman Sitting Near a Window (Marie-Therese) painting on 13 May was sold for $103 million at Christie’s in New York. The painting was sold after 19 minutes of bidding. Woman Sitting Near a Window is Picasso’s fifth artwork that surpasses the $100 million threshold. The painting was purchased eight years ago in London for $44.8 million.
In 2015, his painting The Women of Algier painting was sold for $179.4 million at Christie’s. The painting was created in 1955 and sold in 1997 for $31.9 million. Other paintings that surpassed the $100 million threshold include Boy With a Pipe (The Young Apprentice) which was sold for $104.1 million in 2004 at Sotheby’s to a private buyer, Young Girl with a Flower Basket which was sold for $115 million in 2018 to late David Rockefeller and his wife Peggy, as well as Nude, Green Leaves and Bust which was sold for $106.5 million in 2015.
