Man investigated by police after tweeting intention to sell shirts with”Jokowi: 404 Not Found” design
The man behind the Twitter account @OmBrewoks3 was investigated by the police after he tweeted his intention to sell t-shirts featuring the picture of the “Jokowi 404: Not Found” mural.
East Java Police Head of Public Relations Sr. Commr. Gatot Repli Handoko said that the police launched an investigation after the cyber police discovered the said tweet to get further clarification.
In the tweet, Riswan, 29, who owns a screen printing business, said that he will accept orders for t-shirts with the picture of the “Jokowi: 404 Not Found” mural, as people requested him to through Twitter mentions. He sought to ride the wave of the current controversy regarding the mural, hoping to get a lot of online orders and make money out of it.
He was released after he deleted the tweet and gave clarification. He also created an apology video addressed to all Indonesians as well as the police and judiciary institutions. In the video, he promised not to make the same mistake in the future.
Tuban Police Head of Criminal Investigation Unit Adj. Commr. Adhi Makayasa said that for this case, the police applied the restorative justice approach, which is known as efforts to settle cases outside the legal or judicial route, by prioritising mediation between the perpetrator and the victim.
However, although he has been released, the police will continue to monitor Riswan. “We will continue to supervise him so he won't repeat their actions,” Adhi explained.
