Alternative online radio The Nifty Radio launched this month
A new alternative online radio The Nifty Radio was recently launched. Alternative radio refers to a community broadcasting media that is not affiliated with any government, private, commercial or any other entity.
“The word alternative represents the antithesis of the mainstream media, complementing the mass media landscape,” said The Nifty Radio spokesperson.
Unlike the usual conventional radio station, The Nifty Radio is online-based. It also does not have an editorial board and is not playing top charts songs only.
The Nifty Radio claims to be a community-based archiving platform. It means that The Nifty Radio will record all forms of activities while identifying the artistic patterns of such, focusing on the electronic music ecosystem in Bogor, a city where the radio is founded.
“We realised that in order to support, distribute and pass on a movement of the electronic music scene in our city, it is also necessary to have a distribution and archiving platform that can be read as an uninterrupted timeline of pop culture in the future,” the spokesperson explained.
The founders noticed that Bogor’s electronic music ecosystem started to wear down. Hence The Nifty Radio strives to activate it by inviting various entities such as musicians, artists, DJs, music collectives, record labels, brands, creative initiatives, music connoisseurs, as well as party goers, to come together creating a progressive environment through music-related activities.
In terms of content, The Nifty Radio broadcasts 70% music and 30% talks. In terms of programmes and content, it will be presented in the form of mixtape, live show/live mix and podcast.
“We currently focus on electronic music played by DJs, musicians, music producers and sound artists. On the other hand, we also complement the artistic identity of The Nifty Radio by providing visual images that represent the issues of our locality in Bogor,” stated the spokesperson.
